Sounds like a murder scene rather than terms coming from a photographer!
Trust me, it’s not as murderous as one may think! Even though, headshots sound grueling enough!
First off, do you really need a headshot?
I mean, it’s just a picture of yourself, what else are you going to do with it?
But here’s the thing, your headshot is the face of your business. Are you a solopreneur or an entrepreneur? People want to know you as the business owner. They want to see your face! Have you ever checked out the analytics behind your posts? The ones with your face in the picture usually have the most likes and interactions! Why? Because your clients want to get to know you and it’s hard to get to know you without a picture of you!
So how do you go about getting a headshot? Well, you find an awesome photographer, like myself to help you out! But really, its not just getting a great photographer, it’s about getting your face in front of the camera. Of course, I can help with lighting and help pose you to look your best.
Tips for your headshot:
Avoid big prints and patterns such as stripes/lines in clothing
Make sure that clothes are fitted properly
Match your personality and line of profession; if you work for the bank, dress up a little more than you would on a normal work day (suit jacket, button down shirt, etc)
Choose a color that complements you, watch for colors that may be too bold or washes you out
Ladies make sure you have hair and makeup done, natural looks best and keep it simple
Keep jewelry simple so that it does not distract from your face
Remember to have a great attitude and always bring your best smile!
It is recommended to have headshots done twice a year. If your headshot has not been updated recently, now is the time to do this! (I’ll admit, I am one of them!)
Behind the Scenes
I love getting the opportunity to see people doing what they love and seeing the “behind the scenes” pictures! These are a great way to talk about you, your business, and the reason you love what you do!
In addition to the “behind the scenes”, showcasing what you are working on or products that you sell can be a great way to grab attention in the ‘ol social media world! This brings us to “Flatlays”! My rule with flatlays is to keep it simple, clean, & straight. There’s nothing worse than lines that don’t match up! (Can you tell I’m a photographer?!)
Flatlays don’t need to be a lot of work. They can be really simple, actually. Start off with a clean piece of posterboard or contact paper. It honestly doesn’t need to be much. For my invitiation suites that I use for my weddings, I took a plain canvas and wrapped linen around it. So I have a simple background with some texture!
Now that you have a simple background, you can easily place your product on it! Make sure to have good lighting! I recommend setting it up next to a window with nice natural lighting! You will have your best luck with this!
