Some think that branding sessions, which are photos of YOU can be sooo awkward. Like who wants to sit alone and get their photo taken. A flash back to middle school photos happens — you know where Lifetouch comes to school, sets up their back drop, has you stand on the two white “x's” on the floor, tilts your head then turns in so you feel so uncomfortable and then says, “SMILE” — you know what I am talking about. In fact, I know you just went there in your mind.
Branding sessions as an adult, TOTALLY DIFFERENT. I promise. & one way to make it even less awkward is to bring props. I have come up with a little list of 7 different props you could bring to make you feel more comfortable. Now while this is a list of 7 there are TONS more to select from. A note: props should always be able to be tied back to your brand or job. So if you are not a doctor or nurse there is no need to bring a blood pressure checker — get it?!
#1. HAT
The hat gives you something to do with your hands, keeps the sun off your face, is super trendy, and really just is always a good idea!
#2. Other People
Other people or other puppies always make for a great addition. When other people or animals are apart of your career — include them to show just how you do your job.
#3. Alcohol: beer, wine, cocktails
For some, it’s 5’o clock somewhere right? Sometimes a favorite drink of your choice helps relax you during your session. Think about all kinds of social media content — a good “cheers to the weekend” post is always warranted so take the picture!
#4. Coffee or tea
Always my go-to prop is a hot cup of coffee or tea if that’s your style - in fact, I have a coffee pot in the studio in case you forget to grab your cup on the way out! Many of us drink coffee or tea as a comfort item, the smell of coffee alone gives us the feels so I always suggest coffee because it is comfort, cozy, and fun!
#5. Phone
Due to it being 2021, odds are you have a phone and work heavily from it. Your phone is just as important in your business than the actual product or service you sell. When people feel awkward they usually turn to their phone as a comfort item to not have to talk or be awkward.
#6. Book
Do you have a love for books or a special magazine? Bring them with you! The type of books you read can directly show the can of person you are. If you are a pen to paper kind of person and write all your events in a planner, let’s show that off too!
#7 Laptop
The magic maker: laptop, computer, or ipad. Bring one or all. I highly encourage you bring this. One of the easiest props to have with you and offers so many great poses.
